What are Deregulated Utilities?

Deregulated utilities give you the ability to choose the lowest commodity rates from multiple utility suppliers. Often in a downturned economy, using Deregulated Utilities can save 15-40% vs. your incumbent provider at a time you need it most.

At Peak Utilities, this topic is near and dear to our heart. Here’s a little background:

Back in 1983, the United States Federal Government "broke up" the phone company: AT&T was a monopoly with Long Distance calling service, and Bell was a monopoly for Local "dial tone" service. Our CEO, Roger Thomas, was there! "Some companies I walked into would say, “I wish they had never broken up the phone companies!”, but some would say 'How much can I save?', or “I'm so thankful that there are new choices.” And then came deregulated cell phone service! It was an epic time of choices and decision making with telecommunications utilities.

With Deregulated Utilities, the choices are wide open.

All of the United States’ internet connectivity is deregulated!

That’s GREAT NEWS for the commercial businesses or non-profit organizations to get high speeds for your LAN internet access, WiFi, and WAN’s at the lowest cost.

Peak Utilities can provide these choices in your specific region(s).

Energy Deregulation Facts

If you’ve already lived in a state with energy deregulation (Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, Florida, and Pennsylvania to name a few), you may already know what it’s like to reap the savings! Whether you need a refresher course, or you’re new to energy deregulation, we hope to break it down so that it’s easy to understand.

  1. You have the freedom to select a commercial energy supplier.

  2. Tired of dealing with lousy customer service? Deregulation has made customer service more of a priority by allowing for a customer-oriented broker like Peak Utilities!

  3. Like the old saying goes, "when companies compete for your business, you win!” Deregulated energy is a GREAT win for consumers because Retail Electricity Providers want to win your business. These providers try to win your business by offering lower rates than you currently have, special promotions, and loyalty plans. A competitive energy market is encouraging environmental consciousness.

  4. When you choose to change to a deregulated supplier, in some regions you can still choose to receive your bill from the same state-appointed utility company you currently have.

  5. 1, 2, or 3-year agreement terms are normally required for deregulated energy suppliers. Rarely will you be able to sign a no-term contract.

  6. When the power lines go down, a state-appointed utility company will still take care of the issue. Also, know that custom spec'd generators can be purchased from Peak Utilities to allow your business to have a “graceful shutdown”, keeping you up and running for hours or days.

Deregulation decisions are made by Local and State governments, not our Federal government. There are approximately 32 states in the U.S. in which some regions are deregulated utility markets, and some are not. There is no state with a wholly deregulated utility market, in which every city or county is deregulated. Some states only allow electricity to be competitively sold, some states only allow natural gas to be competitively sold, but some states allow BOTH to be competitively sold.
